Workflow for Design project final: Date: 8/25/11
SUHSD Digital Media Showcase

Workspace Preparation:

¯I looked up pictures for my final that were related to my topic of the picture.
¯ I set up my file by creating a full screen 1024x768 Transparent.
¯ I revised the final email to make sure I followed the correct steps.
¯ I remembered what the tutorials teached me.

Creation Process Beginning Steps:

¯ Full Screen
¯ No Backgrounds
¯ No Tutorial assistance
¯ Layer Masks Required
¯ No Destructive Editing

Creation Process Continued:

¯ Add layer of sky to the transparent background.
¯ Add a layer of a part of a lake on top of the layer of sky, I used the layer mask to get the piece of the lake that I needed.
¯ Add a layer of rocks which I used the Magic Wand Tool to cut off pieces that I did not need from the picture.
¯ Add a layer of mountains on top of the lake and use the Magic Wand to cut off the pieces you do not need. After I used the Magic Wand, I used the layer mask to make a soft edge on the bottom so it would blend in with the water.
¯ Add a big moon so you can create the big impact in the picture, which I used the layer mask to cut off  just the piece that I needed.
¯ I added clouds to give the impact of a sunset. I used the Magic Wand to cut the edges of the clouds perfectly and then I used the layer mask with the brush tool and blended the edges so it would blend in with the other layer of sky.
¯ I added a canoe and a light house to reflect the things that you would find in a lake. I used the layer mask for both of them to cut the pieces that I did not need. I blended the bottom edges of the canoe so it would blend with the water and seem realistic.

Creation Process Finalized:

¯ In the end, I added a couple of flowers to the picture by looking for them as “flowers in sunset” so they would match with the color of the other layers. I used the Magic Wand Tool so I cut perfectly get the edges of the flowers.
¯  I made sure my layers were blended correctly so that they would look realistic.
¯ I checked the size of the picture to make sure it was a 1024x768  full screen transparent.
¯ I realized that the moon needed to be bigger and I went to edit, then scale and made the moon bigger.
¯I added the last touch ups to the lake that had rough ends by the mountains.
¯ I made the moons edges softer so it would blend with the sky.
¯I made the clouds edges softer so it would create a sense of breeze in the wind.
¯ The canoe was smaller and I made it so it would look better with the flowers in front of it.

Publication Process:

¯ I made my file a JPEG
¯ I went to www.google.com
¯ I logged into my account and went to New Post under my computer art class blog.
¯I went to Edit Pages under my Final blog
¯I then inserted my image into the blog and published the page.

Comments

I used a lot of images that would be able to blend together with facility. The layer mask was the principal thing I used in this picture. The Magic Wand Tool helps a lot when you have white spaces and the picture you need cuts off perfectly. The blending was crucial for my water and sky, so I added the layer mask with less of an opacity.

Reflection

My piece is called lake on sunset. I created a really peaceful, mellow emotion since everything is so tranquil. It is a lake that reflects peace and the nature of a beautiful piece of nature. It is reflecting a lake on a sunset with beautiful colors reflecting on every corner of the piece.

WORKFLOW FOR TEXT EFFECTS PROJECT FINAL Natalie Martinez: DATE 9-15-11

WORKSPACE PREPARATION:
¯ I made sure the size of my layer was 1024x768
¯ I made my layer transparent
- I gathered the words that I wanted to use and made sure they where spelled correctly.
-I desided on the font I wanted to use for my words.
 CREATION PROCESS BEGINNING STEPS:
¯ I figured how I would fit every word so I would leave less white space.
¯ I wrote down the words in the order that I wanted them.
¯I then started to think on what layer styles I wanted to apply for each of them. I created the first word which was my name. I used layer styles and I used the font named Rage Italic. I made it the biggest word so it would stand out from the rest of them. I used Bevel and Emboss with a Chisel Hard technique. I made it 100% depth beacuse I really wanted to show the texture. I added a Satin finish with different shadows.
CREATION PROCESS CONTINUED:
¯ I continued my process by creating the other word which was "happy". I also used layer styles and I used Gradient Overlay and I applied some shadows.
¯ The next word was  "Friendly". I used layer style, and I applied an ineer shadow with a blue color. To be exact I used 3998D5. I desided that I wanted to use a fun font, so I went with Gill Sans. I did an overlay color so I could have different shades of blue and yellow in the text. I also applied blue shadows around the word.
¯ Next, I did the word "loving". I created a glowing, almoust like an effect that the word would have light in it. I applied many different shades of pink and white. I applied an outer glow using a pink with white color, the blend mode was screen. I applied more of an opacity. For the inner glow, I also applied different shades of white so it would give an ilussion of a glowing effect. I added a Pattern Overlay so It would give an ilussion of strings inside of the letters.
¯ For the "funny" word, The most important thing was the scale and the depth of the texture. I applied different colors and high lights. I used Lucida Handwriting for the font.
¯ For the "nice" word, I used Script MT Bold for the font, I wanted this word to be big and different. I used a dropped shadow that was brown with its full opacity. I wanted it to be almoust like a layer around the letters. I added a Contour effect and Texture. I created the different colors inside the letters by using color overlay and making it a different texture so it would appear as if it had little circles inside. The stroke had a different tone for the bottom and the top.
¯ For the word "Honest" I used Filter- Motion Blur. I wanted to create a feeling of motion in my word. I also added a neon glow so it would give it a better finish. I used Lucida Calligraphy as the font.
CREATION PROCESS FINALIZED:
¯ When I was done, I made sure that I used everything that the final text needed to include. I went over my words to see if I could fix something or add a different style to them. I made sure my words where as big as possible so I would have less white space. I moved my words a little so they would look more evenly distributed. I finished by adding this last touches.
PUBLICATION PROCESS:
¯ When I published my text effect final, I entered google.com and I entered into my account. I went to Account Settings, then I clicked on Blogger. After that, I clicked of New post and the Edit Pages. Then I entered my Text tutorial final Blogg.
¯ I went to Compose, and I posted my picture and then I went to my saved documents to get my Workflow template. I posted both of them into my blogg.
COMMENTS
I used every layer style I learned in the text tutorials. The text tutorials helped me a lot to prepare for what this final needed. I used almoust every effect that I learned and I actually discovered new ones doing this final. I also used "Filter" since I discovered in the tutorials that you could do a lot of different styles for a text, and that helped my text look even better and cleaner.
REFLECTION
My piece is called "This is me". I created styles in the words that you could actually feel the meaning of each of the words. I wanted to create a clean finish, and I was really satisfied with the end result. I learned a lot about text effects and how a word can be so artistic. I learned how to use text in different ways and understand the meaning of a text effect.

Workflow for Magazine Project Final: Date: 11/14/11
WORKSPACE PREPARATION:

¯ I made sure that I saved my magazine template before starting.
¯ I opened my magazine template in photoshop.
- I created a transparent background since I did not want to over color the spread.
 CREATION PROCESS BEGINNING STEPS:
¯ I knew that I could not use too much color in the background, so I applied enough amount of colors in puctures and words, making sure I used the correct colors that where 00BFFF Deep Sky Blue & FFD700 Gold
¯ I looked up different themes that I would have liked to use, but I decided on Dance since there is a lot of pictures out there to use and I am interested in the subject.
¯I looked up examples in the internet and I looked at the examples that were sent to us so I would give myself an idea of what to do.
CREATION PROCESS CONTINUED:
¯ After looking at the examples, I figured that we needed more pictures than words in a yearbook spread, so I gathered pictures that would look interesting and fun.
¯ Next, I added an inspiring, motivational speech that would give the reader a sence of what was the SYHS Dance Team.
¯ Next, I did the margin of the page, which I wanted to put the words "ready, set, dance" so the reader could emediately know what they where about to read. I used different type of fonts and I used layer style for all 3 words, then I made sure I used the school colors to stay in the theme.
¯ For the "ready" word, I used a Viner Hand ITC with an 86 pt font and I used Layer style and applied an Inner shadow, Drop shadow, Inner glow, and Bevel and Emboss to give it an 3-D effect.
¯ When I applied the big picture, I made sure it was in the specific size that they gave us, not larger than 8" in width.
-I added pictures around the big dance picture so There people would be able to see more examples of what dance class is, and plus it looks better and it creates a fun energy to the margin of the picture. I made sure my pictures big enough so people could be able to see them but still make them small so they could fit perfectly around the margin.
 CREATION PROCESS FINALIZED:
¯ For the last touch, I added a paragraph on what Dance class is, and some examples of what students said about their experience during Dance classes. I made sure the words where readable and I used a 14 point font to make sure I followed the instructions.
 PUBLICATION PROCESS:
¯ When I published my magazine final, I entered google.com and I entered into my account. I went to Account Settings, then I clicked on Blogger. After that, I clicked of New post and the Edit Pages. Then I entered my magazine final Blogg.
¯ I went to Compose, and I posted my picture and then I went to my saved documents to get my Workflow template. I posted both of them into my blogg.

REFLECTION
This Magazine spread is mostly about something that I'm interested, I think that when we work on something that we like, ideas flow. This is something that I would have done if I was to create an actual yearbook. I believe that this gives an idea of "school spirit" and mostly a fun, happy environment that dancers give.
